Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 June 2026
RetroDeck is built on a simple principle: your music is yours, and your data should stay on your device. This policy explains what RetroDeck does and does not do with your information. In short, RetroDeck does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data.
The short version. RetroDeck has no account, no servers, and no analytics. It runs entirely on your iPhone, accesses your music and photos read-only, and never sends anything off your device.
1. Information we do not collect
RetroDeck does not collect personal information. Specifically, RetroDeck does not:
- Require an account, email address, or sign-in of any kind.
- Include third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software.
- Use advertising identifiers (such as the IDFA) or device fingerprinting.
- Transmit your music, photos, listening history, or usage to any server.
RetroDeck has no backend. There is no cloud component for your data to travel to.
2. Access to your music and photos
To work as a music player, RetroDeck asks your permission to read your media:
- Music library access lets RetroDeck browse and play the songs, albums, artists, and playlists already on your device. This access is read-only. RetroDeck never modifies, copies, deletes, or uploads your music.
- Photos access is optional and is only requested if you open the Photos feature. It is also read-only. Your photos are displayed on the device screen and are never modified or uploaded.
Both permissions are optional. If you decline either, RetroDeck continues to work using a small bundled demo library of original, royalty-free content. You can change these permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy and Security.
3. Information stored on your device
RetroDeck saves your preferences (such as your chosen skin, equalizer preset, shuffle and repeat settings, and backlight timer) locally on your device using the standard iOS preferences system. This information stays on your device and is removed if you delete the app. It is never sent anywhere.
Album artwork thumbnails may be cached temporarily in memory to keep scrolling smooth. This cache is never written to a server.
4. Purchases
RetroDeck is a paid app, available as a one-time $0.99 purchase, and contains no advertising. The purchase and any restore functionality are handled entirely by Apple's App Store and StoreKit. RetroDeck does not see or store your payment details. Please refer to Apple's privacy policy for information about how the App Store handles transactions.
5. Children's privacy
RetroDeck does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because no data is collected, there is nothing for us to handle differently for users under the age of 13.
6. Your rights
Privacy regulations such as the GDPR and CCPA grant rights over personal data. Because RetroDeck does not collect, process, or store any personal data off your device, there is no personal data held by us to access, correct, export, or delete. You remain in full control of the on-device data described above through iOS and by deleting the app.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes will be reflected in the app release notes where appropriate.
8. Contact
Questions about privacy can be sent to support@retrodeck.app.
9. Independence and trademarks
RetroDeck is an independent application inspired by the classic click-wheel music player. RetroDeck is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Apple Inc. iPod, iPhone, Apple Music, and Apple are trademarks of Apple Inc., used here for descriptive and historical reference only. References to the iPod Classic describe the inspiration for the app's design and are not claims of affiliation.
